iPlan on getting an iPad. Do you?

Marvel Entertainment recently announced its app for the Apple iPad, saying it will give fans “unrivaled access to Marvel’s rich library of comics.”

When I first heard about the “Kindle,” I wasn’t sure I’d be interested because of how much I enjoy holding and marking up whatever it is I’m reading. But I’m also a gadget guy and will usually pay for something that will make my life more convenient. (Or simply more amusing, that is.) Then came the iPad. (inevitably so.) And when Marvel announced it’s new app recently, the conflict in me grew all the more.  Mostly because with comics, searching through back issues and trolling Comic Cons and auction sites for specific issues is half the fun. Not to mention going into a store and seeing a comic you’ve written on the newsstand. However, as others have pointed out, this could also mean seeing those comics reach a wider readership since the number of comic shops throughout the U.S. is dwindling. (Gee, I wonder why?) So basically, I don’t know where I stand on this issue, but I do know that my wife just ordered me an iPad for my birthday so, technically, my hands are clean. 🙂

The Marvel Comics App, developed with ComiXology, will launch on Saturday with more than 500 classic and modern stories priced at $1.99 each. New content will arrive each week.
